300 & Growing

Nearly every conversation I have about McCall’s centers on “McCall’s Chapel School” — the 197-acre campus we have just east of Ada. And, for good reason. Our campus, after all, has existed since 1974 and many people have visited over these 50+ years in Ada.

But, back in October, we changed our name to “McCall’s Communities for Life Enrichment.” Why? Well, we thought it was a better description of who we are, what we do and those we serve. Also, we are neither a “chapel” nor a “school.”

McCall’s Communities for Life Enrichment — and here’s the part a lot of folks don’t know — has TWO divisions: we have the campus, which is called an “Intermediate Care Facility” and where our residents live in a congregate setting. Typically, we have 12 residents in each of our 13 homes.

But was also have a community division. If you’ve followed along — or even if you haven’t — you may recall a lot of press coverage on the DHS waiver waitlist and the work our Oklahoma legislature has done to remove the waiting list. This is “community” living.

Our community homes are next door to you and me. For our residents who get approved for waivered services, we like to find 3-bedroom, 2-bath homes. The best arrangement, at least for us, is the 3-resident “DLS” (Daily Living Supports) homes.

Without intent to sound political, it’s fair to say the federal and state government is pushing for our residents to live in a community environment. For one reason, they maintain it does more to normalize our residents and intertwine them, literally, into a community.

No argument there! But there will also be a need for facilities like our campus.

Today, McCall’s continues to serve ~130 residents on campus and nearly 200 more in the community.

So, all told, we provide services to over 300 individuals. Our annual budget exceeds $25 million and we employ more than 400 full-time staff!
