Weather Challenges
Just when you start to think you might slip by unscathed over the winter…
Winter weather — the snow, sleet and ice — are a challenge for all of us in everything we do. But take a moment and think about our residents at McCall’s…who will take care of them when the “sledding” gets tough?
Answer: our home staff always pull off the miracle. Granted, sometimes they work a shift and are unable to get away. Snow and ice can prevent leaving one of our homes. In which case, our staff, always prepared and packed for the “just in case” moment, hunker down. They have to; but they do it nonetheless. And they do it in the spirit of care and service and protection for our clients.
On our campus, we do what we can. We are prepared with tractors and snow blades. We also receive tremendous help every storm from County Commissioner Gary Starns and his crews. You de-ice sidewalks, shovel steps, keep faucets dripping and, basically, ride it out.
Unlike a lot of facilities, the McCall’s campus is extraordinarily prepared with a diesel generator that can power the entire 197 acres — something board member John Hudson and the fine folks at People’s Electric Cooperative put in place years ago. We haven’t used it often, but, when we have, it’s been a God-send!
As we ready ourselves for the oncoming storm, we want YOU to be safe…and we also want you to know that WE will be safe too!
